According to the latest report (2013) by All India Council Higher Education (AICTE), Andhra Pradesh alone accounts for nearly one fourth of the students seeking admission into engineering courses. Main reasons attributed to this increase in admissions are chances of early settlement and better career options.   However, this increase in number of seats in engineering is also accompanied by increased cost of engineering education.

In Andhra Pradesh, the engineering education fees has increased by more than four times since 2000. Therefore, Pursuing higher education has become quite expensive.  Many students belonging to lower income and lower middle class families are also pursuing engineering education.  These families are financially not very comfortable to meet the expenses need to be incurred for the completion of the course. Keeping in view the financial position of the majority of the families, government of Andhra Pradesh has implemented one of the most prestigious welfare schemes viz., fees reimbursement scheme that is estimated to cost the exchequer nearly Rs. 4,000 crores per annum. Not only students belonging to SC/ST/ BC communities are covered by this scheme but also students belonging to economically weaker sections are eligible to avail this scheme.
In spite this scheme, many meritorious students belonging economically weaker families are able to get benefitted. Some of these include students seeking admissions through Management quota either by choice or by virtue of not qualifying in the entrance examination (EAMCET). Through this article an attempt is made to share information about various scholarships schemes being funded by both government and non-government agencies to help the meritorious students pursue engineering education. An alternative means financing the education through educational loans schemes is also presented. It may be noted that many of these agencies fund for pursuing any other higher education also.
